Let me start with the fine print: I'm reading a lot of YA now because I'm writing YA. I read Made of Stars, the first book I've ever read by Kelly York, because Entangled Teen very kindly invited me to review books for them, and Made of Stars featured an ensemble of heroes. It's a mystery. And, last but not least, it has an absolutely gorgeous cover, a cover that hints at sublime revelations.

I just took Pollard's two week workshop, " Head-hopping and Roving Body Parts." Pollard's lessons are short, to the point, and memorably funny. I'll never be able to write a sentence like

About three years ago the Pamela Green and Jarik van Sluijs of the PIC Agency optioned my book, Alice Guy Blaché:Lost Visionary of the Cinema, with the goal of making a documentary film which entitled Be Natural. The title harks back to the sign Alice had in her film studio, trying to coax actors used to using pantomime on the stage to emote with more restraint for the camera.
I recently joined the Florida Romance Writers chapter of Romance Writers of America. This is a large, very busy, and very published chapter! It's almost intimidating.
My short story, Monsters on the Border, won Honorable Mention in the Writers of the Future Contest. This is the first recognition I've gotten for my fiction.
The story started out as a Thursday story at the Viable Paradise workshop.
Last weekend I attended the Historical Novel Society Conference in St. Petersburg, Florida. It was a great gathering that included Anne Perry, Diana Gabaldon, C.W. Gortner, and many others. Watch this space for videos from the conference in a week or so.
Ray Bradbury gave this advice to new writers:
Don’t start out writing novels. They take too long. Begin your writing life instead by cranking out “a hell of a lot of short stories,” as many as one per week. Take a year to do it; he claims that it simply isn’t possible to write 52 bad short stories in a row.
